Video Scalers convert one video standard and resolutions to another. A common application is to convert standard analog video signals into higher resolution computer signals. Video scaling generally produces a smoother image and may be preferable when feeding larger screen video projection systems. Up-Converters can be used for anything from playing a video game on a computer monitor to watching a DVD movie on a large screen computer resolution projection system. AV Toolbox provides a wide range of products to suit your specific need and budget.
Down Converters are also called Scan Converters or VGA-to-Video Converters and transform higher resolution computer images into lower resolution video images. This is done for applications that require a computer image to be recorded on a standard VCR or displayed on a standard TV Set. Normal television systems are much lower in resolution than typical computer signals. Computers can produce up to three times as many horizontal lines as standard analog television resolutions. Scan Conversion is the process of fitting a higher number of lines of information into a lesser number of available spaces, so the converted image quality may not be as good as the original.
NTSC-PAL Converters are also called Standards Converters and allow you to convert video signals between a wide variety of worldwide broadcast television standards, such as NTSC, PAL and SECAM. Bi-directional conversion allows you to go in both directions. For example, if you have a video tape from Europe in the PAL standard and a PAL VCR, you can play it back through a Standards Converter and change it to an NTSC signal to view it on a regular USA-type TV Set or record it onto a standard USA-type VCR. We offer three levels of standards conversion:
UTP (Unshielded Twister Pair) Transmission Products (Cat. 5/6) allow the transmission of video, audio and computer signals over great distances via Cat. 5/5E or Cat.6 cable. Systems are available for analog video by choosing the appropriate transmitter and receiver, depending upon the signal format and distance. Transmission of HDMI or DVI signal is possible by using an all digital system for moderate distances or a hybrid system for long distances. HDCP compliance is maintained with all HDMI systems.
DVI and HDMI Digital Video formats are popular in today’s Home Theater systems. Format Converters change one signal type to another, such as from Analog to DVI or DVI to HDMI without changing the resolution.
Signal Splitters are also called Distribution Amplifiers and provide multiple outputs of the input signal without loss of quality or signal level. For example, several monitors can display the same image at great distances from the source.
Routing Switchers are also called Signal Selectors, AV Selectors or just
Routers. A standard Routing Switcher can have multiple video and audio signals from a number of sources, such as VCR's, Video Game Consoles, DVD Players, etc, connected to its inputs. Its output or outputs can go to one or more destinations, such as VCR's or TV Sets. You can select which input goes to the output(s) with the push of a button, without moving audio and video cables around. A Matrix Router has the added flexibility of being able to route any one of the input signals to any one of the multiple outputs or to all the destination devices. Mechanical Passive Selectors just provide signal selection without any amplification or processing, since they require no power supply.
